An Important Day for Prevention in Germany

It's official at last and it marks an important day for prevention in Germany.

In the German Bundestag, members from across the political spectrum have founded the cross-party Parliamentary Circle "Prevention" (Parlamentskreis „Prävention"). We at PRIMA say: congratulations, and thank you!

For us, this day is a real partial success. A good deal of persuasion lies behind us — but we are also clear-eyed: a far greater share of the work now lies ahead of us all.

The founding of the Parliamentary Circle makes visible what many actors from science, civil society, public health and politics have been calling for years: prevention must not remain a marginal issue in health policy. It has to becomea central task for the future.

PRIMA expressly welcomes the founding of this Parliamentary Circle for taking this important step across party lines. Because now the political signal must turn into concrete implementation: better standards, binding targets, effective prevention structures, fair access, better data, sustainable financing and a health policy that does not wait to act until people fall ill.

For PRIMA, one thing is clear: prevention is not an add-on. It is the foundation of a modern, fair and future-proof health system.

We look forward to working with everyone ready to take this path forward.
