Healthy Ageing Becomes a Parliamentary Priority – PRIMA Among the Founding Signatories at the Lithuanian Seimas

On 12 June 2026, the International Parliamentary Cooperation Initiative for Healthy Ageing and Longevity was inaugurated at the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania in Vilnius — a cross-party, international alliance of parliamentarians, researchers, and civil-society actors.

PRIMA is among the founding signatories and has helped shape the Initiative from the outset. The Memorandum was adopted during the international conference "Healthy Ageing and Health in All Policies – A Strategic Choice for the State," held as part of the Healthy Ageing and Longevity Assembly 2026.

Population ageing is one of the defining transformations of our century, with far-reaching consequences for health systems, social protection, economic productivity, and solidarity between generations. Yet despite the urgency, parliaments still lack dedicated frameworks that make healthy ageing and longevity a systematic, cross-departmental priority. The Memorandum addresses precisely this gap:

It anchors the principle of "Health in All Policies," calls for evidence-based policy-making grounded in geroscience, and treats prevention, research, and healthy life years not as a cost but as an investment with measurable social, economic, and humanitarian returns.

As a structured platform, the Initiative establishes joint working groups, enables the cross-border exchange of proven legislation, and develops applicable policy tools — from ex ante and ex post health-impact assessment of laws to indicator frameworks for healthy life expectancy. As PRIMA Longevity Policy Institute, we contribute our health-policy expertise and will actively support the operational coordination and ongoing development of the Initiative. The Memorandum is framed as a shared declaration of intent; it expressly respects the sovereign decision-making freedom of every parliament and every member of parliament.
